Honoring the Veterans of Winnebago County Since 1903. Veterans Memorial Hall and Museum is a living memorial to Veterans from all wars. It will serve as a constant reminder to the sacrifices given by brave men and women from Winnebago County and a way for generations to remember and learn about their lives. The founding members of EAA Chapter 22 were: Frank Murray, Joe Kirk, Lynn Stevenson, Ken Long, Hendley Hall, Mel Jacobeson, Bud Harwood, Ken Casson, Bob Richardson, Ed Livingston and Roy Malm. EAA Chapter 22 was started with a meeting in Cottonwood FBO owner Frank Murray's office sometime in 1956. Frank Murray was elected the first president and ran the organization until he resigned due to ill health.The first issue of "TOUCH & GO" (EAA Chapter 22's monthly newsletter) was published in 1964 with Peter MacKay as the editor. Honoring the Veterans of Winnebago County Since 1903. Veterans Memorial Hall and Museum is a living memorial to Veterans from all wars. It will serve as a constant reminder to the sacrifices given by brave men and women from Winnebago County and a way for generations to remember and learn about their lives. Open Tuesday through Friday from 9-4. Historic docent led tours on Tuesdays at 11 am and Wednesday at 1 pm.Weekends and group tours by appointment. Rentals available. This Memorial Hall, one of the first of it's kind in the state of Illinois to be dedicated to our veterans of all wars, was completed in the year 1903. The doors opened with the dedication ceremonies on June third of that year by our twenty - sixth president Theodore Roosevelt with these words: "No more fitting memorial could be erected to the men who fought, than a hall such as this..... a hall beautiful because of the uses to which it is consecrated" - Teddy Roosevelt 1903.
