Calvary Baptist Church on Linden Road in Rockford, IL, is opening a Pre-K - 12th grade extended-year school for the 2024/2025 school year. We will have traditional subjects taught in the classroom, along with debate, gardening, home economics, journaling, quarterly community service projects, and STEM.How the school will be different from other private schools in the area is, while we are a traditional school, we will be offering what we call an Extended Year. The following is how the extended year will work:Once the traditional school year is completed at the end of May, the extended year will begin in June. The organization administers grant funds that target secondary career and technical education programs at 34 area high schools and middle schools across 10 northern Illinois school districts, including Belvidere, Byron, Harlem, Hononegah, Meridian, North Boone, Oregon, Rockford, South Beloit and Winnebago. The Cherry Valley Public Library District began as a village library on April 19, 1977 when seven persons were elected to serve as library trustees. The first building to house the library was Fisher's former store at 209 E. State Street, Cherry Valley. In 1978 the library trustees hired a librarian and applied for membership in the Northern Illinois Library System. By July 1979 there were 4,000 books on the shelves and 351 cardholders (167 adults and 184 children). In 1980, Revenue Sharing Grants were approved by both the Cherry Valley Village Board and the Cherry Valley Township Board and many books and materials were purchased. A Village Board grant of $20,000 was earmarked for purchase of a new library building. The library moved across the street to 202 E. State Street, the former Ekedahl Tool Building, and remained there for 9 years. In 1983, a referendum was passed creating the Cherry Valley Public Library District, thus increasing the size of the population served from 1,000 to 10,955 (1990 census). A new, larger library building was needed. Voters passed a referendum in April 1988 to build a new library building. The library moved to 755 E. State Street, its current location, in November 1989. The 13,300 square foot building now contains a collection of 63,508 print and audio-visual items, 162 subscrptions, 11,845 ebooks and 11 reference databases. The library serves a population of 20,000, and is open 62 hours per week (7 days a week Sept.-June).

The Severson Dells Nature Center is housed in a converted Deer Lodge situated on a 369-acre county forest preserve. The Nature Center includes a library, bookstore, classroom, conference room, and display area. Numerous bird feeders attract a variety of species throughout the year. Forest Preserve of Winnebago County Working closely with the Nature Center, the Forest Preserve District maintains the physical property and facilities, including the Nature Center. Our programs are funded primarily by memberships, donations, and proceeds from special events.

Stronghold Center is a four-season retreat and camping center, operated by the Presbytery of Blackhawk, Presbyterian Church (USA). Our facilities include wilderness cabins, a camping area, dining and meeting rooms, and seven retreat houses able to accommodate 6-56 guests. Located in Oregon, IL, the beauty of nature exists in a variety of environments, all along bluffs overlooking the Rock River. Founded in 1963, Stronghold Center proudly continues to provide a variety of Christian and secular programming and events. Our unique programming includes summer camps for ages 6-18, challenge courses, and a Confirmation Retreat. In October, Stronghold hosts the annual Olde English Faire. Stronghold is also a great location for one-day seminars, business meetings and professional development programs, church picnics, and family reunions!

Filled with original furnishings, artwork, diaries, clothing and household items, the Cottage is a rich time capsule of life during the Victorian Era. The Cottage is also one of only a handful of Swiss-style homes remaining in the United States and is located in the heart of Rockford, Illinois. The museum complex contains the historic house museum, barn, and carriage house from the Tinker family. In addition, the property is the home of the founding site of Rockford and contains a pre-Columbian conical mound. Please note our guided tours are held at 1:00pm and 3:00pm

Rockford is home to several academic programs from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). College of Medicine Since 1972, the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford has focused on developing an optimal learning environment for training healthcare professionals, conducting innovative research and improving the health and wellness of our society. Academic programs include Doctor of Medicine, Rural Medical Education Program, Master of Science in Medical Biotechnology, Family Medicine Residency and Hospice and Palliative Care Fellowship. Patients can get university-level family health care at the L.P. Johnson Family Health Center on State Street in Rockford and at the UI Health Rochelle Family Health Center. College of Nursing The UIC College of Nursing Rockford Regional Program opened in 1992. The nursing regional site offers access to a wide variety of graduate programs in diverse specialties. In addition to several master’s programs, the program offers the Doctorate of Nursing Practice. Classes are offered in a variety of formats – in person, videoconference and online. Clinical experiences are arranged and supervised by faculty at a variety of sites in and around the Rockford area. College of Pharmacy In a direct response to the continuing shortage of pharmacists in Illinois, the College of Pharmacy created its Rockford regional program. The first class of students was admitted in 2010 and will complete all four years of pharmacy education on the Rockford campus and at clerkship sites throughout the state. Students in the Rockford program will complete all of the same coursework as students on the Chicago campus. Select students from rural backgrounds will be admitted to the rural pharmacy (RPharm) program, training with medical students from the College of Medicine at Rockford Rural Medical Education (RMED) program.

Honoring the Veterans of Winnebago County Since 1903. Veterans Memorial Hall and Museum is a living memorial to Veterans from all wars. It will serve as a constant reminder to the sacrifices given by brave men and women from Winnebago County and a way for generations to remember and learn about their lives. Open Tuesday through Friday from 9-4. Historic docent led tours on Tuesdays at 11 am and Wednesday at 1 pm.Weekends and group tours by appointment. Rentals available. This Memorial Hall, one of the first of it's kind in the state of Illinois to be dedicated to our veterans of all wars, was completed in the year 1903. The doors opened with the dedication ceremonies on June third of that year by our twenty - sixth president Theodore Roosevelt with these words: "No more fitting memorial could be erected to the men who fought, than a hall such as this..... a hall beautiful because of the uses to which it is consecrated" - Teddy Roosevelt 1903.

YouthBuild Rockford provides low-income young people who have not completed high school in the Rockford area with vital opportunities to become productive, self-supporting adults. YouthBuild serves out of school youth with academic education, vocational skills training, personal counseling, positive peer support, leadership development, job placement and follow-up support. In addition, participants build or rehabilitate housing for low-income families, and have produced 41 units of affordable housing in Rockford since the program began.
