The Museum is located within the home which was built for John Erlander and his family in 1871, within the historic Haight Village of Rockford. Collections include Rockford-made furniture and many artifacts recalling Swedish immigration to northern Illinois and Rockford's Swedish heritage. The Museum is open Tuesday thru Friday by appointment only. Please allow 72 hours lead time for requesting a tour. Call 815-963-5559 to reserve your tour. Join us as local history lives on in a quaint home built in 1850's. Known today as The Ethnic Heritage Museum it is here that you will find six fascinating galleries devoted to the primary immigrant groups that settled in southwest Rockford, IL. African-American, Hispanic, Irish, Italian, Lithuanian and Polish. Through displays of early Rockford area maps, everyday artifacts, vintage clothing and more, visitors of all ages can learn about Old World customs and traditions. Historical photographs tell the stories of the earliest settlers who established factories near the old "waterpower district" and built their homes nearby. By comparing early with current lifestyles, the museum strives to bridge the gap between yesterday and today ... encouraging visitors to relive the past with a clear focus on Rockford's bright future. Kortman Center for Design and The Kortman Gallery, founded in 1986 by Doc Slafkosky and Jerry Kortman, are located in an historic Barloga building at 107 North Main Street in Downtown Rockford, Illinois USA. The store, located on the first floor, presents intriguing objects from around the world with an emphasis on great design. Alessi of Italy is one of the featured lines, along with art glass, jewelry, toys, folk art...and other fascinating home accessories. The second floor is the Kortman Gallery with fine art exhibitions that change every 6 to 8 weeks. The gallery also hosts a small book & wine department with books on art, design and popular culture. Store & Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday 10am to 6pm.

Our museum campus has an assortment of historical buildings. The queen of the campus is the Waukesha Hangar, a reclaimed 1937 airplane hangar which houses our unique museum. Outside you can also visit our historic Slim's Garage, "fill up" at our historic Sunoco Gas Station, or just take in the beauty of our pastoral landscape while experiencing the thrill of airplanes taking off nearby. The Poplar Grove Vintage Wings and Wheels Museum is a great place to visit again and again for new exhibits and events throughout the year. Be sure to check us out during our open season (May 1st to October 31st) and see for yourself why we are a great historical and cultural center for the community, the county, and beyond.

The Cottage is also one of only a handful of Swiss-style homes remaining in the United States and is located in the heart of Rockford, Illinois. The museum complex contains the historic house museum, barn, and carriage house from the Tinker family. In addition, the property is the home of the founding site of Rockford and contains a pre-Columbian conical mound. Please note our guided tours are held at 1:00pm and 3:00pm

Honoring the Veterans of Winnebago County Since 1903. Veterans Memorial Hall and Museum is a living memorial to Veterans from all wars. It will serve as a constant reminder to the sacrifices given by brave men and women from Winnebago County and a way for generations to remember and learn about their lives. Open Tuesday through Friday from 9-4. Historic docent led tours on Tuesdays at 11 am and Wednesday at 1 pm.Weekends and group tours by appointment. Rentals available. This Memorial Hall, one of the first of it's kind in the state of Illinois to be dedicated to our veterans of all wars, was completed in the year 1903. The doors opened with the dedication ceremonies on June third of that year by our twenty - sixth president Theodore Roosevelt with these words: "No more fitting memorial could be erected to the men who fought, than a hall such as this..... a hall beautiful because of the uses to which it is consecrated" - Teddy Roosevelt 1903.
