Welcome to our page! We are the Northern Illinois chapter of USA Dance (chapter #2039). Our Northern Illinois chapter is a friendly mix of couples and singles of all levels, from beginner to competitor. The general public is warmly invited to attend all of our events. 4th Saturday Ballroom Dance in Belvidere – every fourth Saturday of the month we hold a dance at the beautiful Community Building Complex of Boone County (Belvidere Community Center), 111 W. 1st St, Belvidere, IL. We start with a one hour lesson at 7:00, general dancing begins at 8:00. Mixers and exhibitions take place throughout the evening. (Note - the date will be moved if the 4th Saturday falls on Christmas Eve/Day. Also - the 4th Saturday of the month is not always the last Saturday of the month!) 2nd Saturday Ballroom Dance in Rockford – on the second Saturday of the month, September through November, and January through May in Rockford. 2nd Saturday dances are held at the Arthur Murray Studio, 7326 N. Cherry Vale Mall Dr., Rockford, IL. General dancing begins at 7:30. Admission to our dances is $6.00 for USA Dance members, $8.00 for non-members, and $2.00 for students.

Kortman Center for Design and The Kortman Gallery, founded in 1986 by Doc Slafkosky and Jerry Kortman, are located in an historic Barloga building at 107 North Main Street in Downtown Rockford, Illinois USA. The store, located on the first floor, presents intriguing objects from around the world with an emphasis on great design. Alessi of Italy is one of the featured lines, along with art glass, jewelry, toys, folk art...and other fascinating home accessories. Carpenter's Place is a safe daytime drop-in center that aids chronically homeless adults, many of whom suffer from mental illness, substance abuse, or learning and emotional disabilities. Instead of simply providing a meal or bed for the night then sending the person back to the streets, CP case managers help each homeless guest develop and implement a comprehensive Life Recovery Plan through holistic case management. This includes assistance in obtaining a wide array of needed services, employment and housing. CP also manages five housing programs for special homeless populations including: U.S. Veterans; women; chronically homeless men and women; men who have successfully completed an in-house addiction program and upon release are homeless; and employment housing for homeless men in the CP job readiness program.

Calvary Baptist Church on Linden Road in Rockford, IL, is opening a Pre-K - 12th grade extended-year school for the 2024/2025 school year. We will have traditional subjects taught in the classroom, along with debate, gardening, home economics, journaling, quarterly community service projects, and STEM.How the school will be different from other private schools in the area is, while we are a traditional school, we will be offering what we call an Extended Year. The following is how the extended year will work:Once the traditional school year is completed at the end of May, the extended year will begin in June. The academic focus will be reading, math, and science. Students will participate in fun group science projects, a summer reading program, math games, outdoor activities, and field trips. Vacation days are scheduled during the summer.The cost of the extended year is included in each student's tuition fee.The extended school year is two-fold. First, Calvary Baptist Christian School believes extra time in a non-traditional classroom setting will help students perform better during the traditional school year. College of Medicine Since 1972, the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford has focused on developing an optimal learning environment for training healthcare professionals, conducting innovative research and improving the health and wellness of our society. Academic programs include Doctor of Medicine, Rural Medical Education Program, Master of Science in Medical Biotechnology, Family Medicine Residency and Hospice and Palliative Care Fellowship. Patients can get university-level family health care at the L.P. Johnson Family Health Center on State Street in Rockford and at the UI Health Rochelle Family Health Center. College of Nursing The UIC College of Nursing Rockford Regional Program opened in 1992. The nursing regional site offers access to a wide variety of graduate programs in diverse specialties. In addition to several master’s programs, the program offers the Doctorate of Nursing Practice. Classes are offered in a variety of formats – in person, videoconference and online. Clinical experiences are arranged and supervised by faculty at a variety of sites in and around the Rockford area. College of Pharmacy In a direct response to the continuing shortage of pharmacists in Illinois, the College of Pharmacy created its Rockford regional program. The first class of students was admitted in 2010 and will complete all four years of pharmacy education on the Rockford campus and at clerkship sites throughout the state. Students in the Rockford program will complete all of the same coursework as students on the Chicago campus. Select students from rural backgrounds will be admitted to the rural pharmacy (RPharm) program, training with medical students from the College of Medicine at Rockford Rural Medical Education (RMED) program.

Gary Hill has been publishing Music Street Journal (musicstreetjournal.com) since 1998. Since 2018 Hill has published MSJ simultaneously on-line and in book form. He also published all the archives in book form. In 2019 Hill began a series of books under the Music Street Journal banner focused on the Rockford, Illinois music scene titled, "Music Street Journal Local: Rockford Area Music Makers." In August of 2006 his first book The Strange Sound of Cthulhu: Music Inspired by the Writings of H.P. Lovecraft was published. Since then several other books (The Concert Photography of Gary Hill, Strange Realities: Collected Short Stories and More by Gary Hill Expanded and Revised Edition, Poetry of the Air: A Collection of Love Letters from Musicians to Music and The Suite Music World of Gary Hill and a series of three books The Dark Starr Files) have been released. Wizard Song, his first book length science-fiction piece was released on March 31st, 2020. Hill has also written for cable television (Cops 2.0 on G4), All Music Guide, Demand Media Studios and more. He launched Tale of Wonder and Dread Publishing to release science fiction and horror books in 2018, but published a collection of those types of stories in 2017 titled "Dark Dreams and Worlds." Under the Tales of Wonder and Dread nameplate, Hill has published more than a dozen books including a series on Rockford Illinois cemeteries (Rockford's Final Resting Places), Spooky Rockford and Spooky Rockford Two and Spooky Berwyn. Hill launched Spooky Ventures in 2019 and has been doing video interviews, Spooky News segments and more for the Spooky Ventures YouTube Channel since then.

We started with 15-20 people while we were at Cherry Valley and now our average attendance is 80-90 people during the school year and 90-200+ in the summer. In 2002 we finalized our group and made it official. We named ourselves “Forest City Swing”. We host our dances every Thursday night with exception of Thanksgiving. Forest City Swing’s goal was to provide a fun place for people of all ages to go and dance, however FCS became more than that. In 2003 we started our Annual Swing Out Rockford Event. This was a great opportunity to bring in a live swing band and have a big swing party. More importantly, we decided that since we are a nonprofit group, we would donate the net proceeds of the Swing-Out Rockford Event and the Net proceeds of the money collected at our Thursday night swing dancing to local charities around the Rockford Area. To date we have donated over $30,000 to charity since 2003.
