Torch Barbershop came about as a result of Jason Johnson’s experimentation on his own hair back in 1989 after his favorite barber was no longer available. Even though then Jason was only 14 years old then, he began cutting his own hair. At first he has some flaws but over time, the artistic nature in Jason took over, and he began perfecting his craft as a Barber. He kept experimenting on his cuts and styles. Pretty soon all his friends became impressed by his razor linings and started asking him if he could cut their hair. That’s when Jason knew he could become a superb barber. The League of Women Voters of Rockford was established in 1922 just after the formation of the LWV of the United States. Among the founders of Rockford's League was Julia Lathrop, a woman suffragist and founder of both the national and Illinois League of Women Voters. As early as 1926 when a discrepancy was found in the counting of votes, the League brought about the implementation of training for local election judges, a practice which continues today. The Cherry Valley Public Library District began as a village library on April 19, 1977 when seven persons were elected to serve as library trustees. The first building to house the library was Fisher's former store at 209 E. State Street, Cherry Valley. In 1978 the library trustees hired a librarian and applied for membership in the Northern Illinois Library System. By July 1979 there were 4,000 books on the shelves and 351 cardholders (167 adults and 184 children). In 1980, Revenue Sharing Grants were approved by both the Cherry Valley Village Board and the Cherry Valley Township Board and many books and materials were purchased. A Village Board grant of $20,000 was earmarked for purchase of a new library building. The library moved across the street to 202 E. State Street, the former Ekedahl Tool Building, and remained there for 9 years. In 1983, a referendum was passed creating the Cherry Valley Public Library District, thus increasing the size of the population served from 1,000 to 10,955 (1990 census). A new, larger library building was needed. Voters passed a referendum in April 1988 to build a new library building. The library moved to 755 E. State Street, its current location, in November 1989. The 13,300 square foot building now contains a collection of 63,508 print and audio-visual items, 162 subscrptions, 11,845 ebooks and 11 reference databases. The library serves a population of 20,000, and is open 62 hours per week (7 days a week Sept.-June).

Founded in 1963, Stronghold Center proudly continues to provide a variety of Christian and secular programming and events. Our unique programming includes summer camps for ages 6-18, challenge courses, and a Confirmation Retreat. In October, Stronghold hosts the annual Olde English Faire. Honoring the Veterans of Winnebago County Since 1903. Veterans Memorial Hall and Museum is a living memorial to Veterans from all wars. It will serve as a constant reminder to the sacrifices given by brave men and women from Winnebago County and a way for generations to remember and learn about their lives. Open Tuesday through Friday from 9-4. Historic docent led tours on Tuesdays at 11 am and Wednesday at 1 pm.Weekends and group tours by appointment. Rentals available. This Memorial Hall, one of the first of it's kind in the state of Illinois to be dedicated to our veterans of all wars, was completed in the year 1903. The doors opened with the dedication ceremonies on June third of that year by our twenty - sixth president Theodore Roosevelt with these words: "No more fitting memorial could be erected to the men who fought, than a hall such as this..... a hall beautiful because of the uses to which it is consecrated" - Teddy Roosevelt 1903.

Dog Paddle Beach is a canine swimming facility. It is a 21' round swimming pool which is inside so we swim all year round. The heated pool is 54" deep and the 90 degree water provides a relaxing comfortable environment. There is a self serve wash and dry station to use after swimming. Swimming is an excellent non-weight bearing, cardio exercise. Swimming is good for any dog who has just had ACL surgery, chronic arthritis, degenerative myelopathy, needs to loose weight, has too much energy, or just wants to have fun.
