Torch Barbershop came about as a result of Jason Johnson’s experimentation on his own hair back in 1989 after his favorite barber was no longer available. Even though then Jason was only 14 years old then, he began cutting his own hair. At first he has some flaws but over time, the artistic nature in Jason took over, and he began perfecting his craft as a Barber. He kept experimenting on his cuts and styles. Pretty soon all his friends became impressed by his razor linings and started asking him if he could cut their hair. That’s when Jason knew he could become a superb barber. He has been cutting as a licensed barber for close to 14 years now. He runs Torch Barbershop at 7817 Unit C North 2nd St. Machesney Park, IL, near the corner of Harlem Rd. and North 2nd St. Torch gets its name from the core belief Jason and his team at the barbershop stand for, ‘Teaching Others Responsibility, Character, and Honor’. Auburn Creative And Performing Arts (CAPA) Program is an intensive arts program hosted at Auburn High School by the Rockford Public School District 205 in Rockford, IL. CAPA Theatre Arts is a strong portion of this program with productions directed by Eddie Urish and Joselyn Ludtke. For the musicals vocal direction is headed by Beth Heuer. When we began our business in the Spring of 1985, Finials was a lamp shop selling a wide variety of lamps for the home and offering a large selection of replacement lampshades. After two years, we had the opportunity to purchase our present location. It had been a Scandinavian gift shop for a number of years. As we moved into the new location and after extensive remodeling and decorating, we fell more in love with our Swedish heritage. So, we decided to try something very unusual and combined the two businesses. Over the years, we have added on to the property yet with a concern to keep the charm of the original building. Presently, our 13 room “little red stuga” is filled with a wide variety of Scandinavian gifts. We shop various markets each year as well as going to Scandinavia in order to offer the best selection possible. You will find beautiful handcrafted wooden pieces as well as very simple smör (butter) knives - from the fine hand blown Orrefors crystal to the replacement glass for the Danish iron candleholders. Rockford Rage is a roller derby league based in Rockford, Illinois. Founded in 2006, the league consisted of two teams which competed against teams from other leagues. The league was founded in mid-2006, and played its first bout in December: an interleague contest between the Demolition Dolls and the Screw City Slammers, teams which have since been disbanded. The bout attracted 650 fans. In 2009, the league attracted attention for its abandonment of smoking breaks. This type of competition events requires that you hold a valid competition license from Midwestern Council of Sports Car Clubs (http://mcscc.org ) or another recognized sanctioning body. The Wheel-to-Wheel sports car racing Championship Series has been the foundation for the Midwestern Councils racing program for over 50 years. The series features 10-12 race events per year held at the different tracks that Midwestern Council visits.Competition cars based on mass-produced street vehicles (Honda Civics to Corvettes) compete in four categories that include:Showroom Stock: Equally prepared street vehicles with virtually no modifications other then those required for safety.Improved Touring: Similar street prepared cars with performance improvements, while maintaining suitability for street use.Production and GT: These classes allow added levels of performance improvements to increase power and chassis dynamics.Formula and Sports Racer: There are several classes for single-seat, purpose built race cars, as well as classes for both single and dual seat sports racers.Vintage / Historic: The goal of the Vintage historic Racing program is to provide a fun, safe venue for enjoyment of racing cars built and prepared to pre-1975 levels, and for driver that favor the thrill of a skillful drive and good competition.Careful stewarding is emphasized in this racing series, following the basic rules for complete car control throughout the event. Metal to metal contact is never acceptable and we use the 13-13 rule used by other Vintage Racing sanctioning bodies. Vintage/historic cars race in their own race group.
