The RSO was incorporated in 1943 after performing for the community for nine seasons under its first Music Director and Manager, Arthur Zack. Zack led the orchestra for twenty-seven years. In 1970, the Board of Directors appointed Crawford Gates its next music director, bringing renowned guest artists to perform with the orchestra including Van Cliburn (1972), Victor Borge (1973), Phyllis Diller (1974), and Benny Goodman (1975). In 1991, the Board named Steven Larsen as the RSO’s fourth music director. Described as a “Renaissance musician,” Larsen went to work and over the last seventeen years has expanded the orchestra’s repertoire, attracting musicians of the highest caliber. Youth education and community outreach programs have expanded, increasing the RSO’s presence in the lives of Rockford area residents. During his tenure, Larsen added a pops series, an outdoor summer performance series and a fully-staged opera to the Symphony’s concert rosters. He has endeavored to bring the RSO’s performances to wider audiences by performing in new and non-traditional venues. His accomplishments have been recognized through numerous awards, including the Illinois Council of Orchestras’ 2006 Conductor of the Year and a 1999 Mayor’s Arts Award for individual achievement. Under Larsen’s artistic leadership, the orchestra continues to develop the audiences of tomorrow through the RSO’s Youth Concerts and KinderKonzert programs, and through a wide variety of other educational programs involving the entire Rockford community. Overall, the Rockford Symphony’s mission is to enlighten, educate and entertain the people of Northern Illinois through symphonic music performance of the highest artistic excellence.

Evolve Dance Company started as a dream of Artistic Director, Jenny Vause, and became a reality in June of 2005. Since opening, Evolve continues to provide quality instruction to dancers in Rockford and the surrounding areas. Williams Tree Farm has been family owned and operated for over 70 years. The farm was purchased in the 1940’s by Carlton and Amelia Williams and their son Wayne. Originally a dairy and hog farm, timbers were harvested from the farm and saw for what was known as The Wagon Wheel, a historic resort located in Rockton,IL. To replace those trees and for good stewardship of the land, the trees that we harvested where replaced with seedlings. When a winter storm occurred and Christmas trees where in short supply, some of those seedlings were harvested to meet that demand. Thus a new business was born. Christmas tree production was the focus for decades, with the farm shipping trees to local areas as well as sites in the suburbs of Chicago, but as the families began to look for experience based purchases, Williams Tree Farm led the industry in becoming a choose and cut farm. Now more then ever, making memories is what we are all about.

Historic Auto Attractions is not only home to famous cars, but also a wide array of movie memorabilia. Some of those pieces include Marilyn Monroe’s nightgown, a sweater worn by Hollywood legend James Dean, and an outfit worn by Elvis Presley. Filled with original furnishings, artwork, diaries, clothing and household items, the Cottage is a rich time capsule of life during the Victorian Era. The Cottage is also one of only a handful of Swiss-style homes remaining in the United States and is located in the heart of Rockford, Illinois. The museum complex contains the historic house museum, barn, and carriage house from the Tinker family. In addition, the property is the home of the founding site of Rockford and contains a pre-Columbian conical mound. Please note our guided tours are held at 1:00pm and 3:00pm

Known today as The Ethnic Heritage Museum it is here that you will find six fascinating galleries devoted to the primary immigrant groups that settled in southwest Rockford, IL. African-American, Hispanic, Irish, Italian, Lithuanian and Polish. Through displays of early Rockford area maps, everyday artifacts, vintage clothing and more, visitors of all ages can learn about Old World customs and traditions. Historical photographs tell the stories of the earliest settlers who established factories near the old "waterpower district" and built their homes nearby. By comparing early with current lifestyles, the museum strives to bridge the gap between yesterday and today ... encouraging visitors to relive the past with a clear focus on Rockford's bright future. Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center offers an exciting range of live musical performances, a vibrant and growing Youth Music Program, and numerous musical performance and education opportunities for adults. The Mendelssohn PAC campus includes Mendelssohn Hall (406 N. Main St.) Emerson House (420 N. Main St.), and Starr Center (415 N. Church St.) Our administrative offices are located in Mendelssohn Hall. We offer an annual Mainstage Concert Series of live performances by local, national, and international guest artists, and our Charlotte's Web Series which features a variety of music from different cultures around the world. Our Music On Main concerts are brief and intimate after-work performances by local and regional musicians. We also have a Jazz at Starr Center Series of Sunday afternoon concerts, strictly devoted to jazz! Pampered Pet offers a complete line of fine grooming services to bring out the best of appearance and personality in any breed. We work carefully, never rush, and do not overbook appointments. We always take our time and do it right. Kibble Korner was started in 2011 to help people in our community keep their pets. It is inside the Rock River Valley Food Pantry and accepts donations of dog and cat food and cat litter. It was started as a temporary pantry but the need is so great in our area that is needing more food than we can keep up with. We now have a website: kibblekorner.com, a Facebook page, and e-mail kibblekorner@gmail.com. You can donate directly to the pantry, through PayPal or send it to: Kibble Korner P.O. Box 10331, Loves Park, IL. 61131. We are now going throught about 2,000 pounds of food a month which cost about $500 a month and we are running out of money. There are several drop of location throughout Winnebago County and they are all listed on the website, if someone needs help by getting food from Kibble Korner the applications are also on the website. Pampered Pet had an idea last year to start a Pet Supply Resale Shop and the proceeds go to Kibble Korner. We accept any donation of new or gently used pet items. We will take small pet carriers, collars and leashes, coats and sweaters, toys, bowls, any cat items. $5.00 can keep a family pet in their home for a month instead of making them turn their pet into a shelter or rescue so every little bit helps.

Our museum campus has an assortment of historical buildings. The queen of the campus is the Waukesha Hangar, a reclaimed 1937 airplane hangar which houses our unique museum. Outside you can also visit our historic Slim's Garage, "fill up" at our historic Sunoco Gas Station, or just take in the beauty of our pastoral landscape while experiencing the thrill of airplanes taking off nearby. The Poplar Grove Vintage Wings and Wheels Museum is a great place to visit again and again for new exhibits and events throughout the year.
