Torch Barbershop came about as a result of Jason Johnson’s experimentation on his own hair back in 1989 after his favorite barber was no longer available. Even though then Jason was only 14 years old then, he began cutting his own hair. At first he has some flaws but over time, the artistic nature in Jason took over, and he began perfecting his craft as a Barber. He kept experimenting on his cuts and styles. Pretty soon all his friends became impressed by his razor linings and started asking him if he could cut their hair. That’s when Jason knew he could become a superb barber. He has been cutting as a licensed barber for close to 14 years now. He runs Torch Barbershop at 7817 Unit C North 2nd St. Machesney Park, IL, near the corner of Harlem Rd. and North 2nd St. Torch gets its name from the core belief Jason and his team at the barbershop stand for, ‘Teaching Others Responsibility, Character, and Honor’. Frank Murray was elected the first president and ran the organization until he resigned due to ill health.The first issue of "TOUCH & GO" (EAA Chapter 22's monthly newsletter) was published in 1964 with Peter MacKay as the editor. The League of Women Voters of Rockford was established in 1922 just after the formation of the LWV of the United States. Among the founders of Rockford's League was Julia Lathrop, a woman suffragist and founder of both the national and Illinois League of Women Voters. As early as 1926 when a discrepancy was found in the counting of votes, the League brought about the implementation of training for local election judges, a practice which continues today. Originally named the LWV of Winnebago County, the name was changed to LWV of Rockford in 1953 and to LWV of Greater Rockford in 1998.

The 2nd City Chorus was founded in 1996 and has earned the distinction as one of Rockford’s premier musical ensembles. As part of the Barbershop Harmony Society, the Rockford Metro Chapter has competed in many Society competitions and has was won the Small Chorus champingship in the Illinois District as well as the Illinois District Most Entertaining Chorus! In June of 2017 the Barbershop Harmony Society made a radical decision and called it "Everyone in Harmony". This new vision allowed woman to join the Society as full members. The Illinois District Fall Contest crowed the 2nd City Chorus as the First Mixed Chorus Champiions. The men and women of the 2nd City Chorus come from all walks of life - we are teachers, engineers, salesmen, pilots, mechanics, counselors, doctors, nurses and retirees. The one thing we all have in common is a tremendous love for music in the Barbershop style! Under the direction of Joe Tomecek, the group meets every Tuesday evening between 7:00 and 9:30 pm at the Christ United Methodist Church Church located at the northeast corner of Highcrest and Alpine Streets in Rockford.  All singers, regardless of experience are welcome to visit and explore membership in our group!

Honoring the Veterans of Winnebago County Since 1903. Veterans Memorial Hall and Museum is a living memorial to Veterans from all wars. It will serve as a constant reminder to the sacrifices given by brave men and women from Winnebago County and a way for generations to remember and learn about their lives. Open Tuesday through Friday from 9-4. Historic docent led tours on Tuesdays at 11 am and Wednesday at 1 pm.Weekends and group tours by appointment. Rentals available. This Memorial Hall, one of the first of it's kind in the state of Illinois to be dedicated to our veterans of all wars, was completed in the year 1903. The doors opened with the dedication ceremonies on June third of that year by our twenty - sixth president Theodore Roosevelt with these words: "No more fitting memorial could be erected to the men who fought, than a hall such as this..... a hall beautiful because of the uses to which it is consecrated" - Teddy Roosevelt 1903.
