Women’s Suffrage Centennial 2020 Northern Illinois Celebration

The “Women’s Suffrage Centennial 2020 Northern Illinois Celebration” or “WSC2020 Celebration” seeks to mark the 100^th Anniversary of women receiving the vote by encouraging women’s groups and civic organizations in northern Illinois to present a wide range of educational and artistic events, displays and exhibits from January 2020, each month through the end of December 2020.

The Steering Committee for the WSC2020 Celebration is made up of representatives from a number of local organizations including AAUW Rockford Area Branch, Rockford NSDAR, WNIJ, Womanspace, LWVGR, NAACP, Women’s March Rockford, WTVO and the Rockford Public Library. 

In addition to a WSC2020 Calendar of Events, the WSC2020 Celebration Steering Committee is spearheading two main goals. A special highlight will be a celebratory community party to be held in Rockford, IL called “Sippin’ with Suffragists” on August 18, 2020. This day marks 100 years to the day of the actual date of ratification.

An even more ambitious goal is the creation of a permanent art installation within the city to honor the women who strove over seven decades to achieve women’s suffrage. Details will be announced on October 30^th at the official WSC2020 Celebration press conference.
