Sjostrom & Sons was founded in 1914, when Richard Sjostrom, a stone mason from Sweden, began building foundations in Rockford, IL.

In 1929, Sjostrom expanded into general contracting. The company developed an expertise in reinforced concrete construction, and by the early 1950s had expanded into the concrete paving business, working on city streets and toll roads.

Sjostrom & Sons quickly grew into a full-service building and paving contractor, completing projects in Illinois, Wisconsin, Connecticut, Colorado and Iowa.
