This fall, Rockford Art Museum will host three local artists who will share their love of art and knowledge of significant art movements throughout history. All supplies are included unless noted. Learn more about each artist and what they will present below:

SESSION I: POTTERY

OCT 6, 13, 20 (2021)

Handbuilding is an ancient pottery-making technique that involves creating forms without a pottery wheel, using hands, fingers, and simple tools. Local ceramicist Sabrina Tassoni will guide students as they learn to create mugs, bowls, and creatures out of clay. Ceramic techniques such as coil building and slab building will be presented, and students will learn about contemporary artists working in clay.

SESSION II: PHOTOGRAPHY

NOV 3, 10, 17 (2021)

Join local photographer Stephanie Kruger in learning the basic techniques of photography! Students will get an introduction to working with their cameras, as well as lessons on lighting, composition, portraiture and nature photography. Students will also explore art movements such as Naturalism and Impressionism. Students will need to bring their own point and shoot cameras (tablets acceptable, but no phones please).

SESSION III: ART FROM AROUND THE WORLD

DEC 1, 8, 15 (2021)

Students will be introduced to art and craft techniques from around the world. Local artist Elisa Ahmer will guide students through the creation of mandalas, dream catchers, and dot paintings all while learning about the cultures where these art forms originated.

*Students and instructors will be required to wear masks covering their nose and mouth at all times in art museum classrooms. Full refunds will be given for those canceling their registrations by September 29th, 2021. 75% refunds will be given for those canceling their registrations by October 1st, 2021. No refunds will be given after October 1st, 2021 unless approved by the museum director. This program requires a minimum of 5 students to run. If the program does not meet this enrollment requirement, it will be canceled on Saturday, October 2nd (4 days ahead of time).
