Get ready for a heroic summer event unlike anything Rockford has seen before! On June 20–21, 2025, the Good Shepherd YMCA on Rockton Avenue will transform into a creative battlefield as local artists and students go head-to-head in Comic Startup, Rockford’s first-ever youth comic book competition.

Inspired by startup culture and the collaborative energy of pitch events like Shark Tank, Comic Startup brings that same entrepreneurial spirit into the world of visual storytelling. Young artists will join forces to write, illustrate, and bring comic book ideas to life—with over $2,000 in prizes on the line and the title of "Best Comic Book Artist in the Region" up for grabs.

This event is open to youth and emerging artists of all ages, especially students and creatives with a passion for comics, manga, horror, dystopian tales, or graphic novels. Whether you’re an illustrator, writer, painter, or a comic lover who wants to collaborate—you’re welcome here.
