The film “Big Pharma: Market Failure,” a documentary focusing on the causes of high prescription drug prices, will be shown on Wed., Aug., 22, at 7 p.m. in the Robert J. Vickrey, MD Auditorium of the UIC Health Sciences Campus-Rockford, 1601 Parkview Ave. A discussion will follow the 30-minute film. 
The film screening and discussion are free and open to the public sponsored by the Organized Medicine Interest Group of the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford.
Dr. Ed Weisbart, a family physician in St. Louis, Missouri, who is a former executive at Express Scripts and chair of the Missouri chapter of Physicians for a National Health Program, will host the discussion after the film. Dr. Weisbart participated in the film’s production and will lead a question and answer session about solving some of the issues presented in the film. He also will share simple, free tools everyone can use immediately, as well as discuss policy changes he believes are needed.
The film is from the Unfinished Business Society. It contends that the natural economic forces of supply and demand for pharmaceuticals have been disrupted and that’s resulted in unreasonable prices for U.S. consumers and aims to educate business leaders and the public on the causes so they can take action to fix the problem.
