Celebrate Women's History Month at Midway Village Museum for "Battling to Serve: Black Female Nurses through the WWI Era."

At the beginning of WWI trained Black nurses were barred from serving in the Army Nurse Corps. Hear about the Black nurses who were the first to serve in the Army Nurse Corps during the 1918-1919 flu pandemic and the nine Black nurses who served at Rockford’s Camp Grant.

Lecture presented by Stephanie D. Smith, PhD., Research Assistant for Jane Rhodes, Professor of Black Studies and LAS Associate Dean for Research, University of Illinois at Chicago

March 9, 2025 1 p.m.

ADMISSION RATES:

$10 adult, $8 children (5-12), $8 seniors (62+), museum members FREE.

Entrance to the museum galleries is included in admission.
