Did you know that we have volunteers? As a 501(c)(3) organization, we have volunteers that help us with many tasks around the Gardens. Most of our volunteers are the friendly faces you see during your visit. They love to share details about the Gardens that our guests may not know, and learn more about why you came to visit us. Some of our volunteers also help maintain the grounds and take great pride in making their section beautiful for our guests. If you are interested in more information about volunteering, please visit: https://andersongardens.org/docents/

While in the armed forces, one of our donors was stationed for a time in Japan and fell in love with the island's culture, people, and beauty. His favorite was the Gardens, filled with flowering trees, trained pines, rocks, and moss. He visits Anderson Japanese Gardens because travel is expensive, and the beauty of a Japanese garden is here in his backyard. The meticulous care of the vegetation and grounds is exceptional, and the waterfall is his favorite, especially in the fall with all the vibrant shades of red, orange, and yellow. Come, take a stroll, and see for yourself. You do not have to travel far to experience the beauty of Japan thanks to our generous donors! If you like to learn more about the Garden, please click the link below.https://andersongardens.org/

The Japanese concept of Ma is something that relates to all aspects of life. It has been described as a pause in time, an interval, or emptiness in space. Physical, social, or related to time, ma is an interval that connects elements, rather than separates them, and emerges as a focal point itself. Ma is filled with nothing but energy and feeling.

In Japanese, shishi-odoshi means “deer scarer.” This bamboo fountain slowly fills with water, and then tips — making a gentle knocking sound that was created to chase away any critters eating agriculture. They can also be used as a meditation aid.
