Meet Katie TownsendNew Garden Historian "I am in my happy place when there is mud on my boots, and I am working with a dedicated team," she said. "This is one reason I am excited to work at Midway Village Museum." An undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resource Management/ Forestry from University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point led Katie into the timberlands of Wisconsin as well as her passion to preserve natural heritage lands. She went on to become an educator, naturalist and program director for various non–profit agencies. Katie built a team of volunteers and staff to assist her in maintaining many gardens while teaching education programs on a variety of different topics.Katie will begin to work with the dedicated and hard working Thursday morning garden volunteers at the museum, and she is introducing a new volunteer opportunity on Saturday mornings for individuals wanting to volunteer but may have other commitments on Thursday mornings. Special Events Coordinator Position OpeningMidway Village Museum is seeking a creative, dynamic person to develop and produce public special events.Midway Village Museum is Rockford’s history museum. Our mission: Midway Village Museum, the best for collecting, preserving and interpreting the history of the Rockford region, is committed to educating and enriching our community by providing state-of-the -art exhibits, programs and events. Midway Village Museum features a 148-acre campus, which includes 27 structures and also features a living history Victorian Village. More information can be found at www.midwayvillage.com.The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Responsible for the planning, supervising and execution of a variety of special events at Midway Village Museum. Events include but are not limited to, Sock Monkey event, Civil War Hands-On History School Days, All Hallows Eve, World War II Days, and other living history programs. The Special Events Coordinator acts as the liaison with the Winnebago County Health Department, Rockford Park District, Rockford Fire Department, and the Historical Reenactment Society for all museum event needs. Work closely with the Director of Marketing to promote and evaluate events. Develop and manage annual budgets and budget for each event. Museum Escape RoomSaturday, March 27, 2021Midway Village Museum6799 Guilford Road, RockfordSession Times Vary:9 am, 10 am, 11 am, Noon,1 pm, 2 pm and 3 pmGeared towards elementary-aged children, this new special event is designed with imagination and history clues for ages 5 through 10.Your child and their friends are digging through a trunk of dress-up clothes and end up falling through a long tunnel ending up trapped in a new location and time - the Rockford Train Station in the 1900s!Groups will have 30-45 minutes to solve a set of history clues to re-open the time tunnel and escape back to the present! Groups are 10 children per hour session.Registration is on a first come, first-served basis. Cost includes entry into the Main Museum Center exhibits. History Exhibits Open: Self-Guided Tours at Midway Village Museum
Main Museum Center at Midway Village MuseumSelf-Guided Tours of the Gallery ExhibitsLocation: 6799 Guilford Road, Rockford, only 1 mile east of I-90, on the east side of the City of Rockford.Tours begin on the hours at 10 am with the last tour of the day starting at 3 pm.The Main Museum Center is open Wednesdays through Sundays. The hours change seasonally at the museum.Closed: Monday and Tuesday.Visitors will walk through the museum's galleries and learn about the history o Rockford and Northern Illinois with stories and artifacts showcasing the Rockford Peaches, the iconic Sock Monkey and its relevance to the community and manufacturing, early immigration, and the impact of aviation in the city’s economy.Visitors also will learn additional stories of the past as they walk through the Many Faces, One Community gallery. This exhibit features stories of Rockford’s immigrants from 1834 to the present.
