We would to thank everyone who participated in the “Rocky the Snowman” contest this winter. All of the pictures submitted were awesome, showing so much creativity with each creation! We’d also like to say thank you again to Collins Aerospace for their support in making this contest possible for our families to participate in for free. The winner for most creative snowman was submitted by Beth Wolfe. The Wolfe family named their creation, “He’s Ok”. The winning “Rocky the Snowman” was created by Jacob (11), Lydia (8), and Nathan (6). The Wolfe family will receive a special surprise Rockford Park District gift basket. A random drawing from all of the submitted photos has been completed, and we will be notifying those winners via e-mail in the coming days. They will each receive a 4-pack of tickets to Snow Park at Alpine Hills valid for the 2021-2022 season.#rpdfun

She is our hero for sure! Danielle Potter, Operations Director has worked for the Rockford Park District since 1989. Throughout the years she has influenced countless lives through afterschool programs, summer camps, youth leadership initiatives, youth sports, and community partnerships. She is a trailblazer who prioritizes the value on the things that matter the most, and that’s “people!”

The Rockford Park District is celebrating the lives and legacies of local African American pioneers of parks and recreation. Marva Brown established the Harkins Community Memorial Foundation and started the Harkins Outstanding Youth Awards. Marva’s been associated with the Rockford Park District since 1996, when her seven-year-old grandson, James Lesley Harkins III, tragically lost his life in a drowning at the District’s Fairgrounds Pool. No family ever wants to go through what Marva and her family endured. In time, she found the strength to not only move forward but to help others in the community faced with the devastating loss of a child. She is an ‘angel among us’ and someone who showed the community how to take a terrible tragedy and turn it into triumph.https://rockfordparkdistrict.org/marva-brown

20 degrees outside, no problem! Park Man to the rescue also known as Executive Director Jay Sandine. He joined Loves Park Mayor Greg Jury, State Senator Dave Syverson, Winnebago County Sheriff Gary Caruana, and Aaron Wilson from WIFR to do their own Polar Plunge today at Aldeen Golf Club. You all shivered for a great cause and did something nobody has ever done before at the golf course.https://www.facebook.com/rockfordparkdistrict/videos/3435976086514320

The Rockford Park District is celebrating the lives and legacies of local African American pioneers of parks and recreation. From sunup to sundown, Breedy Wilson (aka Ms. Breedy) impacted the lives of youth, teens, and adults throughout the community. As a Rockford Park District employee for 29 years, she provided safe and fun recreational experiences. She was the go-to mother figure who treated everyone with respect and as if they were her own kids. Breedy has helped cultivate and shape generations of leaders who want to be just like her. https://rockfordparkdistrict.org/breedy-wilson

As part of Black History Month, USA Football featured four youth league leaders from across the country and it is no surprise to us that one of the game changers being highlighted is Lamont Jones, Youth Sports Manager for the RPD. Lamont started our NFL FLAG football program 18 years ago and has spent his career eliminating barriers that could prohibit youth from participating in the sport. He is a positive role model that helps youth develop character and values. His impact is great!https://blogs.usafootball.com/blog/8216/black-history-month-q-and-a-with-youth-league-leaders
