Museum Offers Visitors Free Weekend ToursStarting Saturday, October 31Midway Village Museum will open its Victorian Village and Main Museum Center free to the public as a special way to say we are sorry for any frustrations visitors felt when trying to come out to the recent All Hallows' Eve Drive Thru special event. Overwhelming attendance, resulted in many visitors arriving to the museum and not being able to be a part of the day.The museum staff extends this free opportunity to enjoy the museum, its campus and learn about Rockford's past as a way of telling the public we are listening to the feedback and comments associated with the All Hallows' Eve Drive Thru special event.The museum is opening its doors for visitors to come and enjoy a free two-hour guided experience in both the Victorian Village and Main Museum Center. Visitors will enjoy a seasonal guided tour and walk through the permanent exhibits inside the Main Museum Center, with an Interpreter in period costume discussing a variety of aspects of Rockford history including life during the years between 1890 to 1910. A history Interpreter will provide the entire two-hour tour.The free weekend tours are available on the dates listed below:Saturday, October 31Sunday, November 1Saturday, November 7Sunday, November 8Saturday, November 14Sunday, November 15Saturday, November 21Sunday, November 22Tour HoursThe Victorian Village and Main Museum Center tour will last two hours and begin at 10 am, 11 am, 1 pm, and 2 pm. and are on a first come, first served basis. The last tour begins at 2 pm. There are only 20 tickets available for each tour time to accommodate for social distancing due to COVID-19. New In 2020!World War II Days Digital Video PresentationsNow available through Sunday, October 25, are viewable YouTube video presentations depicting various aspects of World War II. These presentations are made possible through the videotaping of 20 military re-enactor impressions. Videos are produced by either the military units or museum staff and range from 6- to 20-minutes in length.The video series is a wonderful addition to e-learning opportunities which educators can use as complementary tools for lesson plans or can be viewed by museum visitors who want to enjoy a World War II experience this year in the absence of the annual re-enactment.In early August, Midway Village Museum announced it will not present the World War II Days military re-enactment due to COVID-19 health safety concerns.The annual special event is known as the largest of its kind in the Midwest with typically more than 1,000 re-enactors portraying Axis and Allied forces as well as civilians during the 1940s.Video access is available through Sunday, October 25. St. Mark Lutheran Church purchased the Garrett farm in 1961.
