So this morning I woke up at 6am. You might have had this happen to you too where it isn’t a normal wake up where the alarm goes off and you take a minute to actually wake up. No, today at 6am I Woke Up! No alarm. Wide Awake.

Since there was no going back to sleep for another 25 minutes till my alarm was set to go off I did what many of you would do in my situation. I reached over and grabbed my phone to hop on the ol’ Facebook. The first post I saw was from a friend who had actually posted it two days ago and I just saw it for the first time today. It was a repost of a post that I had made four years earlier when we closed our other restaurant.

It was strange reading my own words. If you’ve ever owned a business which you then had to close you know how terribly hard that process is. The worst part isn’t that it kicks your ego in the gut (which it does), nor is the worst part that it is terribly expensive (which it is), but the worst part is that it goes on FOREVER. You don’t just get to walk away. You get to walk away with baggage.

Because of this, you kind of insulate yourself from it and don’t visit the memories if you don’t have to, yet here I am at 6am, looking it right in the eye.

Fast forward to right now (8:35am).

I just arrived at Lucha to receive a delivery of over 375 pounds of Corned Beef. For those of you that don’t know, Corned Beef Tacos are kind of a thing around here. As I like to say, they are our McRib (except we use actual meat). I say that because McDonalds only brings out the McRib a couple times a year but when they do people love it (for some reason).

So the Corned Beef is here because today is the 17th of September which means it's been six months since St. Patrick’s Day. We serve these tacos twice a year (hence the McRib comparison) - St. Patrick’s Day & Half-Way to St. Patrick’s Day. What is so memorable about St. Patrick’s Day 2020 is that it was the first night that we were closed for indoor dining due to Covid.

That’s right, we’ve been at this for six plus months now. What was so amazing about that night was that we had NO IDEA what we were doing with this whole curbside thing and we had no idea if anyone was even going to show up and then we SOLD OUT of the Corned Beef Tacos. I had never been so happy to sell out of an item in my life!

As you can see, this is an emotionally charged week for us here at Lucha. The team here has been through some highs and lows together for sure. It hasn’t just been a six month roller-coaster (although it has been a wild six months) but rather a multi-year ride.

There are ups and downs and twists and turns but one thing I know for certain, that it's been the ride of a lifetime thanks to my amazing family, wonderful staff and the best customers known to man.

Thank you to all of you for allowing my Lucha team to serve you whether it be at your table or ours!

Thank you and we’ll see you this weekend for some Corned Beef Tacos!!
