Last week we posted the conceptual drawing of the Main Gate and its landscape by AJG designer, Hoichi Kurisu. Fifteen years ago this past April the area of the Main Gate looked like this first image, from a position south east of the Tea House. The original plantings were all removed to make way for the Gate and its landscape.

Before the Gate could be built, the steel retention wall along the Spring Creek needed to be dressed up a bit. Looking north from the Giboshi Bridge.

With AJG’s designer Hoichi Kurisu guiding the project, the final image shows the nearly completed wall. The steel wall was cut off and used as a base to build the boulder wall upon.

Next week we will share more photos of the Main Gate construction which was led by Master Woodworker, Masahiro Hamada from Tokyo, Japan.
