We were so sad to hear that one of our beloved donors and friends, James Hager passed away last week. The Hager Collection was donated to the RAM Permanent Collection in 1994. This collection of more than 100 works, largely by self-taught African Americans from the Southeastern United States, represented the growing national recognition of folk art by major museums—and served as an important benchmark for the focus on outsider art by the RAM Collection. Works by Thornton Dial, Lonnie Holley and members of the Gee’s Bend Quilters Collective are key pieces of this collection. We currently have a small selection of those donated works on view including this piece “Angels” by Alyne Harris.
