It has been 15 years since construction began on the Main Gate at Anderson Japanese Gardens. This sketch, by AJG’s designer and builder, Master Garden Craftsman Hoichi Kurisu, served as the initial plan for construction.

Over the next few weeks we will share images of the Gate’s construction, by Master Woodworker Masahiro Hamada and his team, and the concurrent construction of the landscape by Kurisu sensei, his assistants, and the AJG garden crew.

It was an remarkable project to be a part of, and we are fortunate to have such an important piece of work here at the Garden. Enjoy!
