Adult SRC participants here's your chance to dig deeper: write a 1 -2-page poem or short story about dinosaurs or fossils, no more than 1,000 words. Email your poem or story znorwood@rockfordpubliclibrary.org or mail it to RPL, 214 N. Church St.. 61101. Two prizes will be awarded: one for best poem and one for the best short story by August 31. Stories Beneath the Stones Virtual Presentation
Local author and historian Kathi Kresol will share her favorite stories during this virtual event. Our local cemeteries are filled with interesting stories just waiting to be discovered. These include the slightly odd tales of some of our county's most unusual settlers. Winnebago County has been the home of Native American legends, a psychic turned medical doctor, and truly horrible crimes. Kathi has been researching area cemeteries for over a decade for her Haunted Rockford Tours and her Rock River Times column, "Voices from the Grave.” Kathi introduces the fascinating folks of this area where some of the tallest tales are true.Registration is required. We have a colorful display of NEW children's books just waiting to be checked out. Hurray down to the Hart Interim Library before they're gone. And they are going fast! According to YA / Children's librarian Ms. Sarah, she has restocked the table twice since our reopening. We're open to 5 PM today and tomorrow.
