Here is your daily dose of the Permanent Collection at Midway Village Museum! Maybe this critter looks a bit familiar to some of you who have visited before..


This is one of two concrete owls that were donated to Midway Village Museum in the 1970-1980s. These owls once decorated the Rockford High School buildings. Rockford High School (also known as Central High School) was built on Madison Street in downtown Rockford in 1884. New buildings were eventually added to the campus in 1901 and 1906. However, two of the three original buildings were demolished in the 1940s.


Owls have long been symbols of knowledge and wisdom. The owls perched on the top of the school marked the building as a place of learning.
