Space is limited, so registration is required below. Each session requires a minimum of 5 participants for the camp to run. Participants will be notified of cancellation one week in advance if the camp does not meet minimum registration.

PICTURE THIS! (GRADES K–4)

A picture is worth a thousand words, but how do you know what to say? Join us this week as we explore the art of photography! Learn how to take a proper portrait, how to light a still life, and how to properly use a camera to capture memories of your everyday life. Digital camera must be provided by participant (email education@rockfordartmuseum.org for inexpensive recommendations).


STORIES FROM THE SHADOWS (GRADES 5–8)

WITH STEVE NOFSINGER

JUN 15–19, 1–4 PM

Explore the ancient world of shadow play to inspire your own story. This week we will discover the interwoven history of storytelling and art through shadow puppetry. Learn how light and simple found objects combine to make something beautiful!


FAIRIES, MONSTERS + CASTLES (GRADES 1–8)

Join us for a week of constructing fabric monsters, clay fairies and cardboard castles as we explore using recycled materials in sculpture. Let your most adventuresome daydreams take shape with recycled materials. You may be inspired to save your paper towel rolls and shoe boxes for the rest of the summer!


SHADOW SCULPTING (GRADES K–4)

Join us as we explore the ancient world of shadow puppetry. Learn about how stories have been passed down over generations with the help of some puppet friends and discover how light and simple found objects can combine to make something beautiful!


THE NEXT LEVEL: PREPARING FOR A CAREER AS AN ARTIST (HIGH SCHOOL)

WITH LAURA GOMEL

JUN 29–JUL 3, 9 AM–4 PM

What does it mean to be an artist? How do I know when my piece is done? What should I include in my portfolio reviews? Join us for this weeklong workshop to explore the answers to these questions and push your art to the next level! (Participants must prepare a portfolio for this session: 5–15 pieces.)

INK, PRINT, REPEAT! (GRADES K–4)

Join us this week for an introduction to printmaking! Learn about space and design as you try your hand at both fabric and paper prints. Create usable and sustainable works of art you can enjoy all summer long.


TESSELLATION TEMPTATION (GRADES 5–8)

WITH SARAH REED-MCNAMARA

JUL 6–10, 1–4 PM

Join us for a whirlwind of a week as we explore the many basic forms of printmaking. Try your hand at fabric, paper and screen-printing as you create usable home goods, and follow the printmaking process from a blank block to the final prints!


POWER OF PRINT: INTRODUCTION TO PRINTMAKING (HIGH SCHOOL)

WITH SARAH REED-MCNAMARA

JUL 20–24, 9 AM–4 PM

Join us for a weeklong deep dive into the many forms of printmaking, from the conception of a block print to a finished product. Learn the basics of printmaking and the philosophies behind creating usable, sustainable goods by making multiples for a mass audience. Prepare to carve, ink and print your own products in this introductory workshop.


WONDERFUL WEAVERS (GRADES 3–4)

WITH LORIE PAINTER

JUL 27–31, 9 AM–12 PM

Join us for a week of weaving as we discover how to create and work a loom, thread a shuttle, and create color changing yarn. Learn how to break down objects into simple shapes when drawing and explore the variety of fiber weights and textures to complete a woven wall hanging of your own!
